NASABAT ng Bureau of Customs (BOC), sa pamamagitan ng kanilang Intellectual Property Rights Division, ang sari-saring pinekeng garments o counterfeit wearing apparel na nagkakahalaga ng P482 milyon, at may tatak ng mga kilalang international at local brands.

Ang isinagawang operasyon ay kaugnay sa direktiba ni Pangulong Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. na mapaigting ang border security at protektahan ang consumers mula sa counterfeit at substandard goods.

Ang shipment na dumating sa Port of Manila ay nagmula pa sa Bangladesh. Pero para iligaw at makaiwas sa profiling system ng Customs, ay idinaan muna ito sa Singapore bago ipinadala sa Manila.

Subalit ang containers ay minarkahan ng “for examination” kasunod ng intelligence reports na malaki ang posibilidad na misdeclaration at hinihinalang Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) infringement.

Sa isinagawang 100% physical inspection nitong nakalipas na linggo, nakumpirma ng mga tauhan ng Aduana na ang shipment ay naglalaman ng 1,287 boxes ng counterfeit branded apparel na idineklarang mga medyas lang.

Tinatayang ang bawat piraso ay nagkakahalaga ng P2,500, kaya aabot ang kabuuang halaga sa P482,625,000.

Ang mga kontrabando ay may mga tatak na multiple global and local brands, gaya ng Jag, Bench, Zara, Givenchy, Fubu, Lee, H&M, Cotton On, Lacoste, Burberry, Essentials, Champion, Jordan, Levi’s, Bathing Ape, Oakley, RRJ, Calvin Klein, at Off-white.

Personal na sinuri kahapon ni Assistant Commissioner Atty. Vincent Philip C. Maronilla, kasama sina Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service (CIIS) Director Thomas M. Narcise, CIIS Field Station Chief Paul Oliver N. Pacunayen ng Port of Manila, at brand representatives para sila ang mag-verify at kumpirmahin na peke ang nasabat na mga produkto.

Noong Miyerkoles ay inisyuhan ng Warrant of Seizure and Detention (WSD) ang mga kargamento dahil sa paglabag sa Section 118 (Prohibited Importation and Exportation) in relation to Sections 1113 and 1401 of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA) at Republic Act No. 8293, o the Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines.

Pakay ngayon ng isasagawang condemnation ang bulto-bultong pinekeng kasuutan habang inihahanda ang kasong isasampa laban sa mga sangkot sa pagpupuslit.

“The sale and distribution of counterfeit products not only deceive consumers but also harm honest businesses that comply with the law,” sabi pa ni Assistant Commissioner Maronilla.

Nagpasalamat naman ang brand representatives kay BOC Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno sa kanilang pagiging vigilant at pangangalaga sa intellectual property rights. At sa pagsisikap na mapanatili ang fair competition sa merkado at pangalagaan ang legitimate businesses mula sa masamang epekto ng counterfeit goods.

“We take this responsibility seriously because every counterfeit item that enters our borders affects Filipino livelihoods, both the workers behind legitimate brands and the consumers who deserve safety and authenticity,” pahayag pa ni Commissioner Nepomuceno.

“As the new Commissioner, my focus is on strengthening enforcement, modernizing our systems, and ensuring that every action of the BOC reflects our mandate to serve the Filipino people.”
